AND THE CREEK ROSE

A FLOOD-RELIEF BENEFIT FOR APPALSHOP’S APPALACHIAN MEDIA INSTITUTE

Since 1988, Appalshop’s Appalachian Media Institute has provided opportunities for young people from across Central Appalachia to explore their home communities, address local issues, and become thoughtful, engaged citizens through the process of place-based media making.

AMI’s 2022 Summer Documentary Institute was just one day away from screening three new films when the recent catastrophic flooding began. All of AMI’s filmmaking equipment, computers, art supplies, and countless memories were lost. It was feared that all three 2022 AMI films were lost as well, but after extracting hard drives from waterlogged editing computers, all or partial pieces of the films produced by the Summer Documentary Institute interns were miraculously recovered and will be screened at this event.

Appalshop and AMI hope to rebuild. And as central Kentucky’s premiere venue for film, The Kentucky Theatre wants to support their efforts through this fundraising benefit.

Join us to celebrate and support AMI and Appalshop and enjoy the following:

  • A reading by Silas House

  • The premiere of the 2022 Appalachian Media Institute Films

  • Buffalo Creek Revisited, a film by Mimi Pickering followed by a Q&A

  • Music by Daniel Martin Moore and Wayne Graham

100% of tickets sales will benefit the Appalachian Media Institute’s flood-relief efforts.

FRI, SEP 16 @ 7:30PM | $20
